I agree with the general sentiment that the level has very cool ideas but is ultimately a bit broken-feeling and not particularly cohesive.

Agreed that the solution is not obvious on first sight. 
As Diablillo said it, when you tried this you might then find it less difficult. Also with the  stepcount it could force you to try shorter paths.

Sometimes a level may seem scary to you, but 1) The solution may be far more straightforward and logical than you think, and 2) You may be missing a very fun level! This was the case for me. 2 tries.
